About reading Cantonese

It's not about teaching children to memorize more words, but about using each word to help them build a character recognition system that allows them to understand, reason, and connect with more new words, making Chinese learning easy and fun , so that children can still maintain a connection with Chinese culture through Chinese language even when they grow up.

Starting with stories of facing teaching setbacks

Reading Cantonese is rooted in more than 20 years of experience in Chinese language teaching and special education, and has been redesigned to suit the language environment of children overseas.

"If children still can't remember or truly understand Chinese characters by simply copying and memorizing them, how else can Chinese be taught?"

This problem

Becoming the starting point for the design of Cantonese reading courses

In special education classrooms, teachers need to pay special attention to the diverse learning needs of students. This period provided Ms. Hua with an opportunity to continuously learn, experiment, and adjust, gradually developing a teaching model that emphasizes the student's learning process. Later, when teaching children overseas, she discovered that many of them had limited opportunities to engage with and use Chinese. Simply memorizing characters word by word was insufficient to build lasting Chinese proficiency. Therefore, Ms. Hua reorganized her past experiences, continuously designing, testing, and revising her teaching methods to suit the language environment of overseas children. She hopes to help children not only memorize individual characters but also learn to observe character shapes, find clues, and continuously connect newly learned characters with their existing knowledge.
